"The End of Suburbia"

BETHLEHEM - The SouthSide Film Institute will present the acclaimed and controversial documentary The End of Suburbia on Thursday, January 19 at 8:00. The screening will be followed by discussion with a leader in urban development. Deja Brew café will host the event at 101 W. 4th Street, South Bethlehem. Admission is free, and refreshments will be available.

The End of Suburbia: Oil Depletion and the Collapse of the American Dream explores the current American way of life and our future prospects, as the global demand for fossil fuels begins to outstrip the supply. Produced by the Post Carbon Institute, the film has been lauded by critics and film festivals as "shocking" and "fascinating." The darkly humorous documentary has most recently been recognized with the "Environmental Vision Award" by the Putnam County Film Festival, NY. Canadian director/writer Gregory Greene created the film to provoke discussion about what he sees as the coming energy crisis and what the populace can do about it. Allentown Symphony wants your input

As Affiliate Partners of Network of Young Professionals, we'd like your input.

The Allentown Symphony Association is investigating possibilties in entertainment to broaden our repertoire. As you know, we already offer classical, jazz, and pops, along with family educational venues. However, we are looking to attract more individuals in their 20's and 30's.

As part of the new committee formed to achieve this, I thought it appropriate to get feedback from NETYP members. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

FRIDAY:
First Friday in Bethlehem
Check out the Banana Factory from 6-9pm, where local artists display their own creations and artwork. Not only is this exhibit a great way to spend a Friday night, but a big bonus is that it's FREE! This month'’s First Friday features a reception for the “Third Annual Banana Factory Members Show,” as well as the works of the month'’s featured artists, painters Bill Christine and Rosemary Geseck. Musical entertainment will be provided by The Octave Below.


SATURDAY:
First Weekend in Easton
Open Brewery Tours at the Weyerbacher Brewery (905 Line Street, Easton) from 12-3pm. Tours are approximately 15 minutes long and you will get an excellent overview of the beer making process. Come and see what makes the Weyerbacher experience so unique. From brewhouse to bottling you will see how great beer is made right here in Easton!


SUNDAY:
First Weekend in Easton (continued)
If your New Year's Resolution was to get in shape, here is a great way to start. Free Community Yoga at Easton Yoga from 1-2pm. This Sunday they are featuring Dharma Mittra yoga. Only a few spaces are left, so register online at www.eastonyoga.com.

Betcha didn't know...

Pennsylvania recently received the National Green Power Leadership Award for voluntarily doubling its green energy purchases. In an effort to reduce the environmental impacts of its electricity use, Pennsylvania is making the switch to cleaner, healthier energy sources like wind and solar- and it's already paying off. Thanks to its clean energy policies, the state has been selected as the future home of the manufacturing facilities of wind-energy giant Gamesa Corp. The facilities represent an $84 million investment in the state that will create as many as 1,000 jobs.
